2005 Renideo Sicilia - Syrah
Filed in archive Italian Wines on December 28, 2006
More and more recently, it seems we hit pay dirt with our international wine club's offers and vintages from Italy.
For example, this bottle of 2005 Renideo Sicilia Syrah. At 13.5% alcohol volume, it doesn't have the punch that many of the Napa reds have, which I'm learning is actually a good thing. We sampled ours with some some and sort of stinky havarti dill cheese and toast tips.
I discovered that International Wine Cellars offers this on their site:
The grapes for this wine, which are 100% Syrah, come from the ancient town of Agrigento, located on the southwestern coast of Siciliy. Formally settled in 1638, the town still draws thousands of tourists each year to its Swabian Castle (a Medieval German clan) and the beautiful Palazzo Pignatelli. Made from precious, low-yielding Syrah vines, the Renideo was blessed with intensely concentrated aromas of blackberry, raspberry and black currant. Full-bodied with silky tannins and a hint of Asian spices on the finish, the Renideo Syrah should be opened for one hour before serving at room temperature alongside hearty pasta dishes with red sauce, roasted eggplant and grilled lamb chops.
