A Look at 2007's Rhône Wines

Filed in archive French Wines on April 15, 2009

James Molesworth at Wine Spectator makes a trip each year through France's Rhône wine region. This year he spent a good ten days tasting 2007 vintages.
Based on that trip, as well as the dozens of bottled wines I've tasted since I've been back in the office, I can report that it's a mix of good and bad news right now.

First, the good news. The Rhône stands alone among French wine regions that had a successful 2007 harvest...
Molesworth looks in some detail at what the Rhône is offering up from 2007 and draws the conclusion that the year's wines are excellent - although they still stand in the shadow of a even more outstanding 2005 vintages.

The Rhône wine region is in southern France along the Rhône River valley. You can read Molesworth's fairly detailed report here.
