After the Earthquake, Chile's Wineries are Open

Decantor is reporting that Chile's wineries are open and resuming normal operational schedules in the aftermath of the massive earthquake that shook southern Chile last month.

Not only is this good news for travelers planning to head to Chile, it's also good news for consumers in the US. Chile's wineries are moving ahead with their exports more or less on schedule.

Chile has five basic wine regions:

• Atacama, known for Pisco and for table grapes
  


• Coquimbo, also, known for Pisco and for table grapes
  


• Aconcagua, in the Valparaiso Region. Parts of this region grow mostly Chardonnay and Pinot noir. Other areas within Aconcagua produce Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
  


• Valle Central - Chile's most productive wine region. Produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet, and some Chardonnay.
  


• Santa Mónica, in Southern Chile.

Most of Chile's wine regions have a number of sub-regions.
