Alice White Lexia Wine
Filed in archive Australian Wines , Cheap Wines on March 18, 2007
After my initial Shiraz experience with Alice White wines, I have been on the look out for another sale. This time it was a bottle of Lexia, a really weird colored white wine, sort of the light honey color, and it was on sale for $5. Normally, this brand hovers just above my $5.99 limit, just out of reach from what I determine as a cheap wine find, so I was thrilled that they had some of their varieties on sale. But, white? No red wine? Hmmm.....
Well, I took the plunging figuring that I was happy with one of their wines before maybe it will happen again even with white wine, and hey, I am trying to branch out more into whites. It had been sitting in my frig for at least a week or more, and finally, I tried it the other night. Wow! and Wow! It was much sweeter than I had expected. I even got the DH to try it and he was impressed (and he usually has a much more finicky pallet than I do).
Here are the official wine notes from the Alice White site:
Tasting Notes:
From the vineyards of South eastern Australia comes a unique white wine called Lexia. Lexia is made from Muscat grapes-one of the oldest grape varieties known to man. This grape thrives in Australia's rich soils and hot climate. If you're looking for a wine with the perfect balance of sweetness and refreshment, you've found it. This wine features wonderful aromas of apricots, mangos and lilacs. It offers a round, full mouthfeel with a pleasant sweetness that's well balanced by a crisp, refreshing finish.
Food Affinities:
Lexia may be enjoyed on its own before a meal and is the perfect accompaniment to spicy Thai and Indian dishes. This wine's fruity characteristics also make it the perfect match for simple desserts like fruit tarts and almond cookies.
Fingers crossed - when I head back to the store this week I'll see it on sale again. I plan to pick up a few bottles for my cheap wine stash.

This is one of the absolute yummiest wines I've ever had. I'm no wine expert...most would call me a wine 'redneck', I suppose..but I know good when I taste good and this is good!

This is one of the best wines I've tasted and I live in a snobby wine area. I keep going back to the store and buying more, trying different types. This is a great wine and an unbelievable value!

It's absolutely my favorite wine & my local Safeway is discontinuing it for lack of sales. I'm desperate to find other outlets in the DC Metro area!

I am typically a red wine drinker, however, depending on the dish i can be swayed to a white. As far as white wine goes... lexia is the top choice on my list. Alice White is much worth the sampling if you've not tried it yet. taste and enjoy!
