Americans Love Imports
Filed in archive Wine News by Greg Cruey on August 12, 2009
Jo Diaz had some observations recently on America's love for imported wine over at Wine Blog. Her conclusion is that cost is at least one factor...
In other places around the world, the cost of labor and goods isn't anywhere near what it is in the US. As a result, great wines of regionality and careful crafting can be purchased for a fraction of the cost of an American wine.
Diaz also points out that the taste for imported wine in the US is not static. Wine imports to the US are on the rise. She singles out Portugal; the market for wine from Portugal has grown a huge 77% in the US over the last year.
