An "Older" Beaujolais Nouveau for 2007
Filed in archive French Wines on August 31, 2007
Love it or hate it (people I know seem to do one or the other), Beaujolais Nouveau is one of those traditions that can't be missed. The third Thursday in November, that year's vintage is unveiled to much fanfare. This year, the wine will spend a few extra days fermenting, as the grape harvest started two weeks earlier than it usually does.
From Reuters:
"It's the fifth time in my life that we have seen such a phenomenon. It's a bit exceptional," said Georges Duboeuf, head of one of the Burgundy region's biggest vineyards. He said the previous years were 1947, 1976, 2000 and 2003.
According to the article, and as you might guess, the extra few days really won't make too much of a difference in the taste. The expectation for the 2007 vintage is for a fruity, light-bodied wine. This year, it will go out on sale on November 15th.
