Biker Wine Club
I originally saw mention of this over at Luxist, about a new wine and winery aimed at baby boomer bikers called V-Twin. After going over to the company's web site, I discovered they actually have a wine club. Its Easy Riding Wine Club is a little different than the usual clubs I see. First of all, it's free (yeah!). Secondly, you don't actually get wine sent to you each month unless you order something specific. Instead the club is designed to offer members discount and the inside scoop on new vintages.

Here's a little more about this new winery from a press release:

We all know that Sauvignon Blanc goes with fish and that Chianti is an excellent choice with lasagna. What sort of wine do you drink after you park your Harley-Davidson® and unzip your leathers? Try V-Twin Zin®, the inaugural release from V-Twin Vineyards, based in the Sonoma County Wine Country.

"The motorcycle lifestyle is all about freedom, about enjoying life and enjoying your friends," says Scott Del Fava, Brand Manager for V-Twin Vineyards. "Our first release, a 2004 estate vineyard Zinfandel, is very smooth and drinkable now - especially with your favorite grilled meat dish. After a long weekend ride, I like to open a bottle while waiting for the grill to heat up."

In the last 20 years, the "outlaw biker" image associated with Harleys has been replaced by a new demographic. Most bikers are now in their 40s and 50s, with steady careers and families. What they share is a love of the finer things in life, and an interest in good food, good times ... and of course, good wine.

V-Twin Vineyards is more than a collection of great wines with cool labels. The company is fostering an online community, the "Easy Rider Wine Club," that allows members to post photos of their bikes, share news and information, and participate in events and activities.

Are bikers going soft, drinking wine, surfing the Internet, and noshing on hors d'oeuvres? "No way," laughs Del Fava. "Everyone who rides a Harley is a little bit of a hard-ass, but that doesn't mean we drink cheap wine!"
The V-Twin Vineyards team has decades of experience in the wine industry, and the grapes for V-Twin Zin have been carefully selected from an estate vineyard in the legendary Dry Creek Valley, where warm days begin with cool morning fog, allowing the Zinfandel grape to reach its full potential.

V-Twin Zin is currently available exclusively via the company website, www.vtwinwines.com. Having a "virtual winery" allows the V-Twin Vineyards team to focus on quality and marketing while building the brand. Planned Releases include: River Run Chardonnay®, Poker Run Cabernet®, Redwood Run Zinfandel®, Toy Run Rose® - and a special Reserve V-Twin Zin® with a flaming skull on the front label. These ain't no sissy wines! Look for a tasting room in the not-too-distant future, with good wine, a little attitude, and plenty of Harley parking out front.
For more information about V-Twin Zin call Scott Del Fava, Brand Manager, at 707- 490 -5198 or visit their website at www.vtwinwines.com.

Ah, bikers have come a long way! I remember back when I was a waitress at a little pub, all the other girls hated waiting on the bikers that came in now and then, but I always liked them because they called me "ma'm" (I was, like, 20) and they tipped well! I doubt a biker slash doctor would do the same today.
