Boost for VT Wineries
Filed in archive Northeastern US Wines on August 3, 2007
Vermont has more to offer than just cheese and Maple syrup. In fact, there are 14 wineries in the state. Some are are growing hybrid grapes that can withstand the state's cold temperatures. Others are producing fruit wines made from rhubarb, elderberry (pictured here), and dandelion. Winemakers want to increase awareness of wines from Vermont and increase distribution to other states.
From the Brattleboro Reformer:
Others in Vermont's fledgling wine industry want the Vermont Grape and Wine Council to help raise awareness, eliminate red tape and lead the state to provide money for marketing for what they see as one of its little-known agricultural products.
"We've established a whole new facet of agriculture in Vermont, and we have to gain credibility and awareness," said Kenneth Albert, owner of Shelburne Vineyard. "The state helping us - like they've done for maple syrup, and dairy - we need that support," Albert said.
