Bubbly's Biggest Night

Bubbly's Biggest Night
New Year's Eve is probably the biggest night for bubbly. Who doesn't celebrate with at least a little bit of sparkling wine? Actually, I know a few people who don't, but personally - I can't imagine it. Sparkling wine - be it champagne, cava, prosecco, or good old California sparkling - just has a wonderful, festive quality. It's associated with celebrations and happiness. People fret that champagne is just too expensive, and in some cases that's true especially now with wine prices on the rise. But there is still deliciousness to be had with a reasonable price tag around the bottleneck.

Boston.com helps you learn how to get the most bubbly for your buck and suggests a few bottles of pop in the $10-$12 range. If you're looking for inexpensive, my favorite remains the Filipetti Prosecco, which I wrote about in my Thanksgiving wine post last month. It's just $8 a bottle and full of delicious, dry flavor. (But be warned: it goes down very easy... perhaps a little too easy if you're having a fantastic time with friends!)

As for me and my husband, we'll be enjoying a very low-key night at home tonight. After our two little boys are in bed we'll likely watch a movie and enjoy some creme brulee and NV Korbel Natural (another reasonably priced bottle for around $15). Last year we enjoyed a bottle of Jacquart Demi-Sec. What will you be popping open tonight?
