Bulgarian Wine Festival

Love is in the air - Yup! Valentine's Day is almost here, and along with buying roses and boxes of chocolates, wine is on the menu, at least that's true if you are in Bulgaria for the Balkan Festival of Love and Wine scheduled for this February 14th.

From BALKAN FESTIVAL OF LOVE AND WINE TO BE HELD IN BULGARIA'S VIDIN:

The city of Vidin, situated on the Danube riverbank, will host Balkan Festival of Love and Wine on February 14 2007.

The festival will combine the celebrations of two holidays, local St Trifon Zarezan and international St. Valentine's day, Bulgarian news agency BTA said.

St Trifon Zarezan's day is dedicated to vine growing and wine making, as St Trifon is considered guardian of the vineyards.

Participants from Serbia, Romania, Turkey and Bulgaria will take part in the festival.

A Best Balkan Wine competition was among the festival's main attractions, BTA said. A separate contest for home-made wine would also be held.

St Valentine's day will be commemorated with a Longest Kiss contest. The competitors will kiss to win a weekend for two in a Bulgarian resort.
