California Wines

Vinography had an informative and insightful look earlier this month at California's Zinfandels. The author went to the ZAP Zinfandel Festival "for a chance to taste a whole lot of Zinfandel."
The place was crowded:

The place was crowded:
Most Zinfandels top-out at $40 a bottle, and most really good ones hover in the $25 to $35 per bottle range. At least that might help explain the hordes of people that (as they do every year) descended upon Fort Mason a couple of weeks ago, filling two huge exhibition halls and bringing a dull roar to that end of San Francisco. The article rates well 150 Zinfandels ranging in price from $12 to $50 a bottle. It's an interesting article...

I love the St Barthelemy Zinfandel Port. Its slight hint of wild strawberry makes an excellent complement to chocolate, milk or dark. :) http://www.bottlenotes.com/wine/st.-barthelemy-zinfandel-port-2000
