Diets and Wine in 2006
Filed in archive Food and Wine on January 1, 2007
Today we all start thinking seriously (or at least most of us who are fighting the battle of the bulge) about our diet in the coming year. Granted, wine does have calories, but there's also a lot of news that says it is good for you as well, especially red wines.
Diets, like types of wines and fashion as well, tend to be trendy. What is "in" one year is "out" the next. I thought this article entitled "2006 diet news brought us fish, veggies, wine, chocolate" about 2006 diet trends was something to think about today:
Order from a menu of vegetables, fish, wine and chocolate, but hold the trans fats and sugary sodas. That might best sum up the diet headlines of 2006.
The year's biggest nutrition news sometimes echoed what moms and food scientists have been harping on for years. Other times, it seemed too good to be true.
Often, the news centered on food choices many want removed from the table. But in a year that included white-bread icon Wonder Bread Baking two whole-wheat versions, there were still plenty of healthy options available.
The year started out sweet -- more data suggesting dark chocolate might be good for the heart.
