Do You Have Your Champagne for New Year's Eve Yet...?
Filed in archive Sparkling Wine on December 1, 2008
Heather Johnson gives us a few tips for picking out a bottle of champagne or sparkling wine for New Year's Eve. It's not like you can do without some the bubbles in your glass for that one night each year.
Heather's tips on dryness and fruitiness are especially useful if you aren't particularly familiar with terms like "brut" and "demi-sec." She also looks at price considerations and tells you how you can find a good bottle of sparkling wine without blowing January's rent...

Hee, why would anyone listen to the advice of a person who requires his champagne to have sentimental ostentation.
Let me put a word in for an east coast Champagne (yes, it is Champagne, we were given a lesson at the winery about Champagne not having to come from France)
Renault Winery right outside of Atlantic City makes some very nice Champagnes, that I’m sure have no sentimental ostentation, but can still help you ring in New Year’s with a fizz. Their pink champagne is particularly fun.

What about Bollinger? That said, this is a great list that should cover everyone’s champagne needs.
That said, since it is almost New Year’s,...
By the way, this is probably obvious, but if you’re spending on a great bottle, make sure it is the first thing you drink that evening! Don’t save it for midnight after everyone has already had a few cocktails; then you won’t get the full experience.
