French Winemakers Going to Screwtops
Filed in archive French Wines on July 26, 2008

Say it isn't so! Britain's Telegraph reported last week that the French are beginning to adopt what is common in "new world" winemaking regions-the screw top closure. According to the article, top wine houses, including Burgundy's Domaine de la Romanee-Conti and Bordeaux's Chateau Margaux, are considering the switch.
Screw tops have a number of advantages. They (arguably) keep the wine fresher longer, are less expensive to use, and are more ecologically friendly. More the 90 percent of New Zealand wines and 60 percent of Australian wines use the screw top.
