Herding Cats Wine

Interesting or maybe just weird that Herding Cats Wine is distributed through the Underdog Wine Merchants group.
As part of our international wine club, we recently tried a bottle of their 2005 Chenin Blanc/Chardonnay blend. Yes, I know. I'm not into blends usually, and extra ick, we're talking a Chardonnay blend no less, but you have to branch out more I've been telling myself.
I'm pretty tough when it comes to tart wines, but my husband opted to add a few strawberries to his glass. Here's blurb on this particular bottle from the company web site:
Hook your claws into Herding Cats Chenin Blanc/Chardonnay! It blends the often overlooked Chenin Blanc varietal with the ever-so-popular Chardonnay varietal in a way that showcases its African style! Grown in vineyards rooted in granite and loamy soils, its delicate and playful flavours reflect its native home. The label gives you a sneak peek into how this wine is going to taste. It's fun and lively with juicy guava and tropical fruit. Fresh flavours of ripe figs and a hint of apple on the palate. Serve chilled with fillet of Ostrich topped with a gooseberry sauce (also very good with Fried Calamari).

Normally, I hate chardonnay in all its forms, so I wasn't altogether pleased to try this blend at a wine class. Boy, was I surprised!! I'm a fan of chenin blanc sometimes; however, it's often too tart for me. However, this blend was not only palatable, but surprisingly pleasurable. Bravo!

This tasted just like you would expect a wine from Africa to taste! Too bad I can't find it in stores any more.

Mt wife and I enjoyed the merlot/pinotage blend. I wasn't too exicted to try it as I was born in South Africa and had always stuck to the 'big name' red wines. I was very impressed with this blend and will definitely get more.

My wife and I were looking for a new wine to drink. While staying at the Hyatt in VA we went to grab some wine and came across Herding Cats. I googled this exact site on my iPhone, and I'll say the comments were totally on the money.
This wine is smooth and goes down easy. I'll simply say I think we have a favorite on our hands.
