New Wine Diva Blog
The more I've found my way around the wine blogosphere the more I've been surprised at how few women I see around here.

What gives, girls?

I'm guessing that because very serious wine drinkers often get into the science side of wine making and science generally speaking is more male dominated that there is some kind of connection there, but honestly, it doesn't seem all the clear to me, even as I sit and here babble about it.

Recently I stumbled upon the Wine Diva blog, a blogger out of South Africa who thinks women shouldn't be so afraid of wine and everything that goes along with it:

This blog has fun easy-to-consume wine snippets for South African Wine divaslinks.

Wine Diva is read by the woman who has a passing interest in her choice of wine and wants to know a bit more about it in understandable dialogue. She loves her wine by the glass but can't understand why sometimes it tastes great and other times she can hardly swallow it. She is ready and willing to experiment with new wine selections and tastes but does not necessarily want to become a serious connoisseur.

I decided to start Wine Diva when I realised that women in my close circle of friends know very little about what buy for dinner parties, social gatherings, special occasions and just everyday drinking. Women are intimidated (and downright scared) to order from the wine list at restaurants. Women are major decision-makers and providers in the household, and yet are overwhelmed and panic-stricken by the choices they face when standing in the supermarket wine isle and local bottle store. So what happens? Afraid of getting it wrong, they always end up buying the same old thing - their default plonk or girly drinks!

Women across SA are missing out on the wonderful variety of wines this country has to offer just because they are missing a few simple pointers.

I realize she is not the only female wine blogger out there. In fact, along with myself I've got a few linked in the blog roll for this blog, but I think this is a niche area of the wine market that is not getting enough attention right now.
