New Wine Tasting Game
Filed in archive Wine Gifts on August 26, 2007
Last winter, my husband and I hosted a wine-tasting party for a small group of our friends. It was great fun; everyone enjoyed themselves and we even swayed some opinions on what people think of wine. We've never done any blind tastings, though. (Well, once we did a blind gin tasting to determine if Hendrick's really was as good as a someone told me, but that's another story...) At any rate, I came across this new game called BlindWine and thought it would be a fun gift for a fellow wine lover.
The came contains everything you'll need to plan your party: the invitations, labels, bags for up to six bottles of wine, scorecards, even medals. Your job, as host, is to determine a theme and instruct your guests to bring a bottle of wine the corresponds with that theme. The game retails for around $20 and I suppose it would be easy enough to gather all the necessary materials yourself, but I happen to be a fan of one-stop shopping.
If you want to learn more about the game, check out the BlindWine Web site. (And if you host a party, be sure to post your results - so far there is only one party experience on the site. I'm curious about this!

Blindwine says it's the only complete wine tasting kit in the US, but actually SWILLparty has a game just like this. Their SWILL Wine Tasting and Club Starter Kit is a great way to throw a party or start your own social wine tasting club. It's really easy and they offer unlimited online support including party themes, buying lists and a whole store of other great wine gifts at www.swillparty.com.

Personalized wine gifts for wine tasting parties were a nice touch at an event we had recently. We refurbished a 140 year old wine cellar built by the early German settlers in Iowa. We celebrated with a wine tasting party. When I went to look for gifts I could personalize for our guests, I could not find a helpful store. So, we started our own company and thus far, we seem to have hit a nerve. At PersonalizedWineGifts.com, shoppers can personalize cool wine accessories online with just a few key strokes. I'm sure A&F Schmidt, the founders of our wine cellar, would turn over in their grave, but its a great way to make a party memorable.
