Sparkling Wine
by Carol Bancroft on December 29, 2007

Looking for something a little bit different for this year's New Year's Eve celebration? Instead of buying that same old bottle of yellow label Veuve Clicquot, be daring and give some New York sparklers a shot if you can find them! The Finger Lakes offers a few and the Star-Gazette's wine columnist has offered his tasting notes on a few of them, including this one:
Lucas Vineyards Extra Dry Champagne (NV): the structure of the wine provides great bubbles that explode in your mouth; it is a fruit-forward champagne made with 100 percent Cayuga grapes; it has ripe fruit flavors with a crisp fruit finish; this wine is made in the traditional champagne method (retail $15.99).Why not see if any wineries in your state make sparkling wines? Give your local vineyards a shot! Maybe in 2008 you might consider drinking more local wine. New Year's Eve would be a great time to see what's out there for bubbly.
