Old Wine Auctioned

Get your tuxedo from the dry cleaner because it is almost time for the
Te Omanga hospice Charity Wine Auction on July 7th 2007 held in New Zealand. To start off the fun there will be a wine auction, which just happens to include the oldest bottle of wine in the country. From New Zealand's Oldest Bottle of Wine Up for Auction:
The piece de resistance among the many stellar wines up for auction is this rare 1903 Claret from Lansdowne Vineyard made by William & Hermanze Beetham, owners of one of the first commercial vineyards in New Zealand.
"This bottle represents a rare slice of not only Wairarapa but New Zealand Wine History. Produced before prohibition, it's remarkable that it has survived so long and still remains in the original Beetham family cellar" says Te Omanga Hospice Charity Wine Auction Chairman Larry McKenna.
Wairarapa wineries have been hugely generous in supporting the auction with some truly outstanding wines, many of which have never before seen public release.
Escarpment vineyard will contribute a jeroboam of its first ever vintage 2001 Pinot Noir - bottle number one of only ten produced - truly a collector's item. Alana Estate also has a similar sized bottle of their famous 115 Series 2004 Pinot Noir up for grabs.
Dry River has made available a pair of magnums of 1999 Sauvignon Blanc and 2002 Pinot Noir.
There will also be travel packages, paintings and stunning jewellery, specially designed for this auction. See www.teomangawineauction.co.nz for further details.
