French Wines

Britain's "Telegraph" reported this week that the oldest known bottle of the French Champagne, Veuve Cliquot was discovered in a locked drink cabinet at Torosay Castle on the British Isle of Mull. The 1893 vintage was in mint condition and had been kept in the dark for 111 years. It seems that the key to the cabinet's sliding door had been lost over the years until finally the current owner, Mr. Chris James' curiosity got the better of him and he called a locksmith. Imagine his surprise!
The 1893 bottle is now on display in the Veuve Cliquot visitors' centre in Reims, France.
