One That Bottle Night

I hope that all wine lovers out there enjoyed the big holiday this past weekend. The eighth annual Open That Bottle Night took place on Saturday. Open That Bottle Night is the genius of Wall Street Journal columnists Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher, who write the popular "Tastings" column in the Friday editions. In 1999, after receiving countless e-mails from readers about those precious bottles in their cellars that they were waiting to open, Dorothy and John decided to give everyone an excuse to do it. They invented Open That Bottle Night, when people everywhere can share treasured wines and celebrate memories together by just opening that bottle.
Open That Bottle Night was set for the last Saturday in February. The feedback after the first event was incredible, and Open That Bottle Night became an instant success. The proof was in the outpouring of stories that Dorothy and John received. Some of the most memorable (and tear-jerking
) were printed in their following column. People renewed friendships, found lost loves, discovered new ones and enjoyed a trip back in time via the "gift of the grape." I don't think I could get this holiday okayed by the DH, though. He is so stingy with the good wine. I think it has something to do with his urge to collect jars. Hello, are we living in the depression or what?
