Same Ol' Same Ol' Wine

choices:We can't buy every wine in the world here, but the number of choices on our shelves can be dizzying. This does have something of a downside: Shopping for wine has become more confusing than ever. How in the world are you supposed to find something you like? Do you really want to take a chance with your hard-earned money?
Still, I encourage you to try something new now and then. You don't have to spend a fortune. A restaurant or wine bar with an interesting and varied wine list is a good place to start, as is a wine store with a knowledgeable staff. Be prepared to describe what sort of wine you like so the sommelier or wine seller can guide you.
Whether it's aglianico from Apulia, moschofilero from Greece or viura from Spain, there's a huge array from which to choose. You just have to take a step outside your enological comfort zone.
I have to admit to the wine rut myself now and then. Just today I was shopping for groceries, and rather than spend a little time on the wine isle to find some of my cheap selections I so enjoy discovering, I just grabbed two reasonably prices bottles with labels I recognized (one Cabernet and one Merlot). Now, I was having a major allergy attack and needed to get to the paper isle asap so I could get some kleenex, but even still, I do this too often. One saving grace for me is the fact that we are members of a number of wine clubs, and that really helps us experiment since we don't necessarily choose the wine we get.
