San Luis Obispo's Wine Growth
Filed in archive California Wines on July 19, 2006
Already famous as one of the most beautiful areas of California, San Luis Obispo has also become a leader in wine making. Much of this growth over the past ten years, according to this article by KSBY.com is due to all the events that occur in the area:
The growth of the wine industry has tripled in San Luis Obispo County, and wineries are saying local events are contributing.
Paso Robles is now ranked the third largest wine region in the state, and events like The Central Coast Wine Classic are to thank.
"It means their biggest fans are coming here this weekend, the fans that are willing to buy are those rare and unique treasures they can't buy at regular retail channels. They're spending time on the central coast learning about our wine region, enjoying our wine, and ultimately bidding on those rare wines that they want to take with them to their cellar," explained Stacie Jacob, Paso Wine Country Alliance.
Ten years ago, there were only 40 wineries in Paso Robles, and now there are 170 bonded wineries in the region.

I would really like to see some print on the casualties of this growth. People that put their heart and soul into this area but lost the fight before the fame.
