Septima Malbec, Argentina
Filed in archive Wines from Argentina on May 15, 2006
I have never been a big beef fan. As a child, I drove my poor mother insane because I didn't like any kind of steak or pork, and oh, I also didn't liked cooked vegetables.
Needless to say, I was pretty skinny back then, but I was happy as a clam if mom would just peel me a carrot stick and hand me a bowl of beans and rice.
I have learned to eat a little more beef and other meets as I've gotten older, but I wonder how I'd do if I ever made a trip to Argentina where I've heard they serve a lot of beef and a lot of good wine. Obviously, I have mixed feelings about ever going there, at least for a good meal.
Luckily, I recently got a chance to at least try some Argentinean wine, a wonderful, fruity bottle of 2004 Septima Malbec. The average price of this wine seems to be in the $10 range, depending on where you purchase. I usually go for more musky wines, but this was a nice change of pace. I found the Septima web site and it looks like they have a number of other vintages I need to check out:
Today, Septima produces two types of wine: a range of wines made up of generic wines, Septima Malbec - Cabernet Sauvignon and Septima Chardonnay Semillon, and another made up of grape varieties, Septima Malbec, Septima Cabernet Sauvignon, Septima Tempranillo and Septima Syrah. The cellar also produces a sparkling wine elaborated following the Traditional Method, María Codorníu, the composition of which is 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir.
