No, I won't be flashing that rack. My wine rack! The fine folks at Lenndevours had a great idea and designated today - November 9th - the day for bloggers to show off how they store their wine. I wish I could say that I had a really fantastic storage solution, but the truth is that I don't. We're kind of in-between wine storage systems right now. We plan on getting a large 200+ bottle wine cooler to properly store our ever-growing wine collection (I love this 220 bottle BYO wine cooler from Wine Enthusiast), but for now we're making due with some make-shift storage solutions. This is just a small portion of our wine collection - I have several cases stored in the wine shop basement. Plus, there is a half-rack of my husband's homemade wine (not pictured).
1) This is our spillover wine rack. I need to find a better place in the house for it, but for now it resides next to our main wine rack. I can't believe the kids haven't knocked this sucker over yet.
2) This is where I keep the "eh" wine to cook with. Except when I was taking this photo I noticed a bottle of BEX Riesling up there that needed to be moved down.
3) This box is one of two or three cases in the basement of our house. This is mostly nice Bordeaux wines, and a few California Cabs.
4) And finally, this is our "everyday" wine rack. It is a faux leather put-it-together-yourself rack that we found on clearance at Target sometime last Spring. Hey, it works!
If you want to check out more wine rack photos, head over to the Show Us Your Rack Flickr group. Trust me, there are some much nicer looking racks out there than mine! And don't be shy. If you want to show off your rack, by all means add it to the group!

He makes primarily fruit wines, with blueberry consistantly coming out the best. Strawberry is up there too. He's also experimented with plum wine, rhubarb wine, and I think raspberry maybe? Whatever we can get fresh locally. He's also made mead. He got started several years ago when he purchased a couple wine making kits on a whim, and that got him hooked. There have certainly been some disappointments, but you just take it all in stride. Condsider it an experiment, LOL. The downside is all the space the equiment takes up -- the carboy, the fermenting tank, the glass bottle storage. My brother is really into homebrewing, so I'm spoiled on that end too. Nothing like visiting him and pulling a fresh pint from his Kegerator! (By the way, if you need to unload any of that Chocolate Stout, you just let me know! ;-) )

Oh, see, I love me some fruit wine. And having tried some mead lately, I have been thinking of asking Tom to make some next time he gets his fermentation on... Gear storage is an issue for us too, but I love fresh beer awfully.
I wish we had enough fresh berry fruit in our part of Texas to do fresh fruit wines! Do you find yourself drinking it, or cooking with it more?
Tasted the Chocolate Stout while Tom was racking it yesterday, and it's coming out great! Yay.

I'm curious about wine enthusiasts who become home winemakers, though, because with all our tasting I find we get more picky, you know? So it's got to be a little disappointing if your home winemaking experiment doesn't come out the way you wish, and then what do you do with all that wine?
Of course, your husband could be making award-winning wine at home, what do I know? Is he? Do tell!
