Wine Laws
by Greg Cruey on April 3, 2009
The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans heard oral arguments yesterday on what Fermentation is calling "the most important wine shipping-related case currently moving through the federal Courts system."
Since it happened on April Fool's Day I had to do a little research and make sure it was on the up and up. But it's no joke...

In a nutshell:
Siesta Village Market v. Perry challenges a complicated ruling in the lower Federal District Court of Texas over the issue of retailer-to-consumer wine shipments by out-of-state retailers to Texas residents.A Texas judge ruled previously that a ban on shipping wine into Texas through the mail was unconstitutional. If the appeals court has a problem with that it could put a real crimp in the business of some wineries that sell directly to the public.

Why does the state of Texas have an issue with other states shipping to Texas? Are they afraid that potentially lower prices will see Texans spending money outside of their state?
