So, when people like Ms Humphreys start preaching at people like me, I get very angry. I didn't always have my smug middle-aged, middle-class sofa to sit on. I've been there, sozzled in the gutter, as taxis splashed by me in the rain, and I'm not afraid to admit it.
You see, unlike some people, I'm not a hypocrite about drink. What breathtaking arrogance this Government displays. It licenses 24-hour drinking establishments, sending massive profits to the Treasury, gives drinks manufacturers carte blanche to come up with ever more noxious teen-friendly brews, and then picks on those whose biggest crime is to sit at home minding their own business.
We're the people who gave up smoking, feed our kids "five a day" and never eat more than three chocolate biscuits at once. We're the people trying to "build exercise into our daily routine" and worrying about osteoporosis.
Telling us what we can and cannot do in the privacy of our own homes is a gross invasion of privacy. Telling us that we're "clinically obese" because we've got a few curves was bad enough. Telling us that we're serious alcoholics because we take advantage of asda
's six-bottles-for-£20 is a demonisation too far. If you don't credit us with a bit of sense, we won't listen, simple as that.
