29th Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival; inaugural year was 1979. The festival is chaired by Sue Adams.
March 26 to April 1, 2007
The Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival is Canada's premier wine show and one of the biggest and oldest wine events in the world. It offers something for every level of wine drinker, collector and trade professional. For 2007, the festival has selected 180 wineries from 17 countries to pour a record 1,547 wines at a record 58 events (including eight trade-only events). The hub of the festival is the International Festival Tasting room at the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre, where 717 wines are available for sampling. Another 830 wines (most of them not available at the International Festival Tastings) will be served at special events including a gala auction, wine seminars, trade events, and food and wine pairing affairs such as winery dinners, lunches and brunches at 31 top Vancouver restaurants and hotels. For 2007, the spotlight will be on two areas - the regional theme is Australian Wine: A World of Difference, and the global focus is Riesling. Since its inception in 1979 the festival has raised $5.2 million for the Playhouse Theatre Company. See complete festival details at www.playhousewinefest.com or call 604-873-3311. The festival is sponsored by Chubb Insurance Company of Canada.
