Victoria Street Syrah
Filed in archive California Wines on November 5, 2006
Time for some hardy wine for a change. Recently we sampled a bottle of Victoria Street Syrah 2002. It's got a higher alcohol content than some of the white wines I've been drinking lately, weighing in at 14.5%.
Wonderful with cheese, especially some smoky Swiss left out to warm up to room temperature, keep an eye out for this wine label. According to the Victoria Street web site, they are pretty small potatoes, producing only 6 to 8 thousand cases a year.
If you are looking for a distributor, they have a list posted on their site. However, we got our bottle through our wine club.
Here's a little info on this particular wine from the site also:
This wine is big up front with huge varietal grape flavors and then soften nicely in the finish with just slight to moderate tannins. The alluring aromas have hints of violets and baked apples. The winemaker describes the Syrah as more Australian in style, with very good fruit flavors of ripe blackberry and plum.
