Happy 4th to those in the U.S!
This is a day most of will be outside sweating and eating and drinking and enjoying time with friends and family. Very often we will be feasting on hot dogs, hamburgers, and lots of fresh fruit, like one of my all time favorites - watermelon.
Nothing cools you off like munching on the sweet red goodness inside one of these babies, and along with eating the insides, the outside - aka the rind - is handy for something else - keeping your wine and other drinks cold:
- Wash the watermelon, and slice off a little on the bottom of one side so it stands upright and doesn't roll around.
- Slice open the watermelon, and either make the edges smooth, or if you want to get real fancy you can create a decorative pattern along the edges, depends on your knife skills there.
- Use an ice cream scoop and scoop out the insides or the "flesh" of the melon, and set aside to use in a fruit salad or other fruit recipe. (Melon is yummy with some feta cheese sprinkled over it.)
- Now just fill it with crushed ice and your wine bottles, such as Rose and Chardonnay, and you are ready to party.
If you want to get extra fancy, check out this on Watermelon Carving.
