Wine Islands
Filed in archive Wine Making on June 4, 2006
Ever get the urge to just chuck it all and run off to a deserted island? How about running off to a not so deserted island and making wine?
From Comox Valley Record: With a climate similar to the Champagne or Bordeaux regions of France, the Wine Islands, including the Comox Valley, are perfect for creating a fantastic wine industry, say locals who are already involved.
But while the wineries seem to be popping up now, a presentation next week will help introduce people to the important first step of wine production - planting vineyards.
"We're on the edge - and when you're on the edge, that's what makes great wine," said John Grayson, owner of the soon-to-be-opened Hornby Island Winery, and organizer of the information meeting Tuesday about the Valley's climate.
I did some surfing and found the Wine Islands web site. The site includes some detailed maps, showing which wines are produced in which areas of the islands, as well as local events and more.

Good question. I'll see if I can find out. There's actually lots of different wine makers that make it on the island.
