Italian Wines
by Sandy Mitchell on March 9, 2008

DaVinci Chianti 2005 is an affordable, very drinkable wine, with ripe plum overtones and a smooth finish. Similar to a california zinfandel, it has a subtle spicey taste.
DaVinci wines are crafted in Tuscany, just outside the town where Leonardo da Vinci was born and raised (hence the name). In addition to the Chianti, DaVinci produces a Chianti Classico, a Chianti Riserva, a Sto Ippolito, and a Brunello di Montalcino. The 2005 Chianti is available in wine stores throughout the US for around $16.
Like most Chiantis, the DaVinci Chianti is an ideal accompaniment to dishes made with tomato-based sauces. I enjoyed mine with a traditional osso bucco and it was delicious. The wine also goes well with that spring Tuscan favorite, roast leg of lamb.
