Australia has been producing red wine for nearly 200 years, and inexpensive brands like Yellowtail have become well known overseas for being consistent, drinkable and affordable. In the last few decades some Australian wines have also gotten impressive scores from the international wine community.

Shiraz, or Syrah grapes, are what Australia is best known for. Most of the prime wine-growing regions of Australia feature hot weather, and the Shiraz grape is perfectly suited to this type of climate. The most challenging aspect of cultivating wine grapes in hot climates is in maintaining the balance and acidity that makes wine pair well with food and age gracefully. The wine press has given high scores to some wines with very high alcohol content, lots of new oak and low acidity, but this has created a backlash from consumers who have been disappointed by these high-scoring wines which fail to age well.

California Wine

Carrol Kemp of Graton, California-based Red Car Wines is the founder and winemaker behind the Box Car, 2009 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir wine. She said that pinot noir is the most difficult wine to get right, because the pinot noir grape is the most transparent and unforgiving of wine grapes. The vineyard and cellar techniques will always show up in the finished product, with nothing to hide behind. Common problems with the wine can include a harsh finish or a rough palate.

Kemp fell in love with wine when he was working as a film producer in Los Angeles in the late 1990s. He is best known for producing the 1997 film "The Brave", but became so obsessed with his wine hobby that he left the movie world behind. While passionate about his new career, he took small steps into the wine business because he wanted to avoid mistakes.

History of Zinfandel

Filed in archive Italian Wines on September 5, 2011

Zinfandel is the one of the best American grape. Zinfandel has a confusing history as there has been a dispute about its origin. It was thought to be originated from Southern Italy, but now it is proved that Zinfandel originated from Croatia.
The zinfandel old wines are now treasured for the production of premium red wine.

Zinfandel has always found ways to maintain its plantings in California.

The variety of Zinfandel is currently planted everywhere across the state. A scattered planting of Zinfandel exists in southern Oregon, Mexico, and South America, and as a uncertainty in the odd Australian and South African vineyard.
Zinfandel is well known for its mysterious past and roller coaster ride of popularity.
